  • What's the difference between print colours and screen colours? Your computer monitor produces colours using light. What you see on screen is a combination of the red, green and blue lights known as RGB. A document might not even look the same, displayed between different monitors. Equipment age and materials used in manufacturing are base factors of colour variations in computer monitors.

In print, the colours are produced using pigments. The graphics are rendered using the pigments of cyan, magenta, yellow and black known as CMYK. Some higher end printers use the Pantone Hexachrome model adding orange and green pigments to the mix. Other factors which determine the print result is the quality of ink used and the reflectiveness of the paper it is printed on.

What this simply means is that due to the nature of how the colours are rendered both on screen and on print, the output can never look the same.
